Tess on arrival to Whisper Ranch

There’s new girl in town!

Tess is a 5 year old jenny. She had been with the family who surrendered her for about 6 months. Their intention was for her to be a guard donkey for their herd of goats. As it turned out, she was very aggressive toward the goats.

Tess meets mini donks Dusty and Benji

All the other donkeys at Whisper Ranch are boys…they were very excited to meet the new girl! She is not so sure about them.

According to the history given to us, Tess has been in 3 different homes in her 5 short years and has been alone each time. Basically Tess has been without equine companionship since leaving her natal herd.

Tess also meets Choctaw (horse) and Sonny (mule)

Two other members of the herd joined the meet and greet. She is nervous. Not having been with other equines most of her life, she just doesn’t know what to do, how to interact.

It will take her some time, but when she is ready we will introduce her fully to the herd (gradually).

Supper time

One week later, Tess graduated to living with the two mini donkeys, Benji & Dusty

Benji, LOVES her and she likes him…the bigger one, Dusty, hates her and she hates him back.  The boys are a bonded pair, since they were babies…so this new girl thing is bugging Dusty and he will go after her from time to time, and she will give it right back. Funny part is that Benji will jump Dusty and make him quit, then go back to playing kissy-face with Tess.

Stink-eye! LOL!

In this picture, you can see Dusty (far left) and Tess (far right) giving each other the stink-eye!
Week 3 and she’s in with all the longears doing well, learning how to be a donkey in a herd.

Benji is smitten…
“What is this ‘personal space’ you speak of?”
