Jim Dandy

Meet the pudgy little man we call Jim Dandy.

Jim Dandy exploring his new foster home.

Jim Dandy is a miniature horse (not a pony), approximately 10 years old. He bounced from a home where he was living with cows and because was harassing the calves, that owner put the word out to give him away free. Another person took him to keep him from ending up in a bad situation or ending up at auction (where the pipeline to slaughter begins). However, that second person was not set up to care for him nor was he intending to keep him. He just took him out of harms way until he could find a place for him to go.

Overgrown and twisted front feet

His feet are very overgrown to the point that they are causing his joints to twist. We will be working on him regularly to get his feet back into the best condition that they can be.
Overgrown and unbalanced hind feet

Jim Dandy is fat. Way too fat.

This is common with mini’s (and donkeys) generally, but especially those that are put out to live with cows and not managed on a daily basis. He is malnourished.

Most people think of malnourishment as resulting in a very thin and starving animal. Being obese is also a form of malnourishment. With a proper and nutritionally balanced diet…the body doesn’t get fat.

That goes for animals AND people.

Dandy is in a foster home currently and his foster mom is very experienced at balancing diets. She will get him back on track!
