Our
product
line is named "Whisper Horse" in honor of the rescues here at
Whisper Ranch.
We initially
developed these products for the animals and the humans
who care for them.
They
work
so well, we decided to offer them for sale to help support the
Ranch. For
use
on
animals
and
their
people,
too!
Note: If you have
trouble with the shopping cart, email Cindy csullivan@whisperranch.org We apologize for any
inconvienience, we are still working the bugs out :)
NOTE: Ivy Relief has a very low melt
point as it is developed to penetrate deep into the skin quickly. Keep
it in a cool location until needed or it will liquify. It still works
great in liquid state, just be aware when you open the jar if it gets
too warm.
Ivy Relief
(we don't over harvest our
Jewelweed, so we only have a
limited amount until next summer )
Jewelweed is best
known for its skin healing
properties. The leaves and the juice from the stem of Jewelweed are
used by herbalists as a treatment for poison ivy, oak and other plant
induced rashes, as well as many other types of dermatitis. Jewelweed
works by counter-reacting with the chemicals in other plants that cause
irritation. Poultices and salves from Jewelweed are a folk remedy for
bruises, burns, cuts, eczema, insect bites, sores, sprains, warts, and
ringworm. *
The Jewelweed in this
salve grows right here at Whisper Ranch and is harvested sustainably
and with reverence for God's gift of healing in this wonderful
plant.
Clinical
Study on Jewelweed
"The Results of a
Clinical
Study, in which a 1:4 jewelweed preparation was compared for its
effectiveness with other standard poison ivy dermatitis treatments was
published in 1958 (Annals of Allerty 1958;16:526-527). Of 115 patients
treated with jewelweed, 108 responded ‘most dramatically to the topical
application of this medication and were entirely relieved of their
symptoms within 2 or 3 days after the institution of treatment.' It was
concluded that jewelweed is an excellent substitute for ACTH and the
corticosteroids in the treatment of poison ivy dermatitis. The active
principle in the plant responsible for this activity remains
unidentified." by Varro Tyler, PhD
Pine Salve
Pine
resin is nature’s powerful antiseptic. Helps heal and prevent
infections in wounds, scrapes, cuts, bug bites,
or other skin irritations. Excellent as a drawing salve.*
The
medicinal value of pine sap can be seen by observing nature. The next
time you are walking in the forest, take time to notice the fallen pine
trees. In some places the trees are rapidly decaying, crumbling and
returning to the earth. On the same downed log, look for patches with a
golden-yellow color. These are areas of the wood saturated with sap.
Notice how this part of the log is well preserved and intact years
after the rest has rotted away. The sap wood is able to resist the
bacterial composting that occurs elsewhere in the log. We are
essentially borrowing the immune system of the tree to use topically on
our skin.

healing gifts in the mighty pine tree!
Healing Salve
General
purpose
herbal
healing
salve
combining
three
powerful
plants.
Comfrey: Comfrey leaves and roots
are rich in allantoin,
a compound that stimulates the creation of healthy new skin cells and
helps
calm inflammation. Allantoin is a common ingredient in a variety of
over-the-counter skin soothers for dry skin, sunburn and minor cuts.
Because
comfrey speeds the repair of damaged tissue
Calendula: A close relative of
the common marigold,
calendula has a wide range of anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and
wound-healing properties. Research supports the healing potential of
calendula,
including a recent study that indicates calendula can help heal venous
leg
ulcers, a slow-healing wound that is caused by poor circulation. Use
calendula
salve for skin rashes (including diaper rash), minor cuts and burns,
and
chapped lips. The antimicrobial properties of calendula also make it
helpful
for athlete’s foot.
Plantain: One of
the most common weeds in
the world. Its leaves have astringent, soothing properties and
encourage wound
healing.
Arnica Salve
For
bruises, sprains, strains and pulled ligaments or muscles,
joint pain.
Rub on temples and back of neck for headaches. Do not use Arnica on broken skin.*
Arnica: is a
popular item to use for joint and muscle pain, and even for headaches.
It has been used in North America and Europe for a very long time and
it is a growing alternative as a natural medicine. Today, many
plastic surgeons recommend that their patients use arnica salves to
reduce post surgical bruising, and athletes often carry a tube in their
gym bags to soothe sore muscles.
Arnica oils and salves are one of the best known herbal sports
medicines, arnica has dramatic results if used immediately after an
injury. Arnica helps speed the healing process by moving waste-bound
fluids out and moving cleansing fluids and platelets into the affected
area.
Comfrey: Comfrey
leaves and roots are rich in allantoin,
a compound that stimulates the creation of healthy new skin cells and
helps
calm inflammation. Allantoin is a common ingredient in a variety of
over-the-counter skin soothers for dry skin, sunburn and minor cuts.
Because
comfrey speeds the repair of damaged tissue, check deep wounds often
because the skin may heal too fast and close over before the deep areas
are healed.
