Fozzy is a 20 year old leopard Appaloosa gelding.

He has severe ringbone that prevent him from being ridden. He was surrendered due to difficult economic conditions.

His owner could no longer care for him.

Holistic care, especially barefoot hoof care, are doing him a world of good.  He has improved from initial, constant lameness to longer and longer periods of soundness.

He had a full course of a drug called Adequan that helped with rebuilding the interior cushioning in his joints somewhat, but did not produce a full recovery. He is much better overall, but will not be rideable.

UPDATE 2016

Fozzy is suffering from recurring Equine Recurrent Uveitis. This tends to be a fairly common genetic predisposition in horses with certain color/coat patterns, Appaloosas being one of those categories.

Fozzy is nearly blind now and has to wear a fly mask during the day to shield his sensitive eyes from the sun. Fortunately he is at the same location where he has been since before his eyes began to fail and knows the “lay of the land” well, so he is managing….so far.

Unfortunately, while “better than nothing”, common “fly” masks do not block enough of the harmful UV rays.  There is a wonderful protective type of mask made especially for horses like Fozzy. It is called the Equine Sun Visor.  We are seeking to obtain one of these for Fozzy.
