Kelly, 20yo Quarter Horse Mare

Kelly was a starvation case.  She was with us for a week before she died.  She was a sweet, sweet girl and we wanted so much to save her.   Rest in Peace, Kelly.  There is no shortage of food in Heaven.

Cass, 23yo Gelding

Cass was surrendered by his owner because she was unable to care for him.  He was suffering with horribly debilitating arthritis and could barely walk.  He came to us as a starvation case.  As he gained weight back, his arthritis became worse and worse.  It came to a point where he could no longer even get back and forth for meals.  We had to make the difficult decision to euthanize him in order to stop his suffering.  He was gentle and sweet and he's dearly missed.

Dart

21 yr old Thoroughbred/Appaloosa Cross

Dart competed in 2nd Level Dressage and worked with kids for years.

He came to Whisper Ranch during the summer of '07 for soundness issues.  We rehabilitated him and adopted him out in late August to a wonderful family.  Unfortunately, Dart had a severe colic with a bad blockage right after he was adopted and had to be euthanized.  He will be missed.

Jim

30(ish) years old

Tennessee Walking Horse Gelding

Jim, dear friend, you amazed us all. Your time with us was cherished. You died knowing you were adored, nurtured, respected, and deeply loved....we are grateful for the opportunity we had to give you that after so many years of neglect. You were all heart. Thank you for being a special teacher and pal.

Rosie

24 years old

Arabian Mare

Rosie was a kind, patient mare.  She was gentle and outgoing with visitors (especially children), in spite of the fact that her condition caused her pain.  Rosie had Degenerative Suspensory Ligament Desmitis or DSLD.   (Go to www.dsld.org for more info.)  We loved her and treated her like a Queen for as long as her body would last and then kindly sent her on to join Jim in Heaven's greener pastures.
