Program Horses:
|
 |
Pixie, Miniature Donkey
This is Pixie, the newest addition
to our Community Outreach Program. She is dressed as a "pixie" for a
Halloween visit. Pixie is 7 years old and a natural at working with
the community! |

Bishop, during his recovery
after surgery at UGA. He's doing well now and is working with the
minis in the Community Outreach Program.

Gambit, Miniature Donkey

Gambit is is an awesome little guy! He is
utterly fearless and will go anywhere! He is even confident and
patient on slippery hospital floors or working with people who have little
control over their motor function. He's been a terrific addition to
our program. You can see here how loved he is each time he goes out
into the community. |

Cole,
Miniature Horse
Cole is a rescue and we've added him
to the Outreach Program. He's amazing with people. The photos on
this page were taken on Cole's *first* visit in the community. He was
a complete natural around all the wheelchairs and with all the different
hands touching him and patting him. These days, Cole is learning a LOT
of new tricks. His favorite is waving. When you meet him, offer
him a cookie for a wave...he'll do this trick for anyone!
The Miniature Program needs
sponsors. The more sponsors we have, the more work we can do in the
community. If you'd like to donate monthly to this program, contact
Shannon at ssmith@whisperranch.org.
Thank you to Debbie Hamilton who
faithfully contribute to this program monthly!

kitchen practicing walking on slippery footing and helping Hannah with her
school work! |

Ranger
10 year old Tennessee Walking Horse
gelding
Ranger is probably the biggest
"party pony" on earth! He loves doing leadline rides for people who
are new to horses. He's particularly good at judging a person's skill
level and tailoring his attitude under saddle to what they are able to
handle. This makes him fun for riders of all skill levels to ride.
Ranger is also the Ranch GREETER!

Deb
8 year old National Show Horse mare
Deb is a Whisper Ranch rescue who
has joined our Community Program. She is a fantastic lesson horse for
beginners and absolutely LOVES people. She's also in charge of keeping
all of the other horses in line! If you need to know what is going on
around here, ask DEB! |

The Minis love to get
out in the community! They are great around wheelchairs and let
everyone brush & pet them. If you watch your local PetSmart & PetCo,
you might just see them out on a training trip! Whisper Ranch goes out
into the community with the minis several times a month working everywhere
from Head Start Programs to Nursing Homes.

 | Rehabilitative Boarding: |
|
 |
Sweet Pea is a young Paint Horse
from TN. She has had a metabolic founder from medications given to her
during a severe colic episode. Sweet Pea is here for Therapeutic
Barefoot Hoof Care and nutritional support for her condition. She has
a loving family waiting for her in TN upon her recovery. They miss her
very much, but believe Whisper Ranch can help her!
We are available to rehabilitate
*your* horse with founder. We have one of the leading Barefoot Hoof
Professionals in the industry, Cindy Sullivan, doing our hoof care and
we do custom nutritional programs for each horse we work with here at
Whisper Ranch.
Contact Shannon at
ssmith@whisperranch.org if you
are interested in rehabilitative boarding for your horse! |

He Handsome aka "Handy"
|
Handy is a retired racehorse who was
neglected. He stayed at Whisper Ranch while he regained his weight and
then we worked on touching up his ground training and saddle training.
Handy is now retired and living in Florida.
If you have a horse that needs
rehabilitation, Whisper Ranch is available to assist you in that process.
We can temporarily house your horse while we team with you to deal with
injuries or recovery from starvation. We are here to assist you in
your private rescue efforts!
Whisper Ranch also specializes in
Founder Rehabilitation. We are available to help you with your horses
that have Foundered by keeping them here at the Ranch and supporting their
recovery with natural care. |
 | Education: |
|

|
*Animal Care & Nutrition
These young visitors are learning
proper horse grooming, how to read body language, what horses eat, and how
to be safe while having fun with such big, beautiful creatures.
|

|
|

|
*Basic
Horsemanship
These girls are learning how to
safely partner with their horses outside of the ring. They worked very
hard to earn the privilege of riding in such an open area.
|

|
|

|
*Positive Training
Methods
These kids are learning the benefits
of, reasons for, and methods of training animals using positive
reinforcement.
Do you think Milagro and Nathaniel
are learning this trick or teaching the kids how to reward them for this
trick? |

*Gentleness & Empathy
Training
Participating in daily activities
with the animals facilitates gentleness, empathy, caring, and
responsibility. Visitors are allowed to participate at whatever level
their schedule and physical ability will allow.
We help everyone understand where
the animals have come from and what extra care and attention they can
benefit from during interactions. Everyone works together to help the
animals trust and love humans again and feel safe and secure that their
needs from here forward will always be met. Meanwhile, visitors are
building life skills that will carry over into positive interactions
throughout their lives and promote healing in areas they might not have even
realized need it!
Volunteers who help at the Ranch
frequently are encouraged to take leadership roles with visitors and new
volunteers.
