Reality
Check
I'm a very positive
person, so my focus is on the good that we do & the potential these rescues
have. The truth is, though, that not all of the horses make it.
Abuse & neglect wreak havoc on a body &, although we make every effort to bring
back even the worst cases, sometimes we fail. In those cases, we work
through the painful process of euthanasia to help the horse out of its
suffering. Sometimes this is a
peaceful, humane process & it is obvious that we've made the right decision.
Other times, the horse is in condition that causes it untold suffering & no
matter what we do, very little eases this for them...&, when all is said & done,
things feel very wrong & unjust.
Recently, we lost
a horse we called Kelly. I honor her by saying out loud that letting a
horse get in this condition is a terrible wrong, no matter what the cause.
I honor her by saying out loud that we must work harder to make sure this does
not happen to other animals. I honor her by telling the truth...she
suffered & we could not save her. I honor her by reminding everyone that
what you see on most of the pages of this site are the *after* photos. Dig
deeper, see the *before* photos & remember that they don't all make it to the
*after* photos. It is also in her honor that we move on...to the next
starvation case, hoping beyond all reason as we always do, to bring them back,
restore them to health, & find them a loving home where they get to live out
their days lacking nothing.

Rescues in Need of Sponsors: |
|
Georgia's current drought & depressed economy has caused astronomical hay
prices alongside a decreased ability for people to financially provide for
their horses. We have horses, some in desperate need, waiting for
space & sponsorship. |

us. Through Therapeutic Barefoot Hoofcare and Nutritional Support, she

adoption!

The Miniature Program needs
sponsors!
$100/mo goes a long way in
this program, taking care of several of these little guys and helping to pay
for their travel expenses. The more sponsors we have, the more work we can do in the
community. If you'd like to donate monthly to this program, contact
Shannon at ssmith@whisperranch.org.

It costs approximately $150 to
take the minis to a facility one time. You can sponsor a single visit
or multiple visits by emailing
ssmith@whisperranch.org.
Thank you to Debbie Hamilton who
faithfully contributes to this program monthly!.

Mia, 9 yo Paint Horse Mare
Mia foundered in the past and still
suffers from pain associated with this condition. Therapeutic barefoot
hoof care will be a miracle for her and will make her feel so much better!
We expect her to make a full recovery and be a great riding horse for a
loving family! Mia's owner died of cancer and forgot to make
arrangements for her animals before she succumbed to that horrible disease.
This serves as a reminder to all of us! Do NOT forget your animals'
futures in your wills, folks!
Thank you to Chris Sloan and The
Sloan Agency for sponsoring Mia!

Ben, before |
Ben, 2 yo Mustang Pony
Ben, now
Ben was impounded by Hall County
Animal Control. He was starved and has multiple scars.
Ben's back right fetlock suffered a severe break at some point and he has
developed a lot of mineralization around that joint to compensate. He
is, shockingly, traveling well on that leg. It is apparently an old
injury or, at least, as old as an injury can be on a young colt like this!
We are unsure of whether Ben will be able to be ridden with his leg like
this, but we are hopeful he can be trained as a leadline pony. He's still very nervous about people, but we're
working on it. He *wants* to trust; it is just going to take some
time.
Thank you to Michelle Jenkins of
Winmark Homes for sponsoring Ben!

Bishop on a therapy visit with an Alzheimer patient.

Bishop, 2yo Pony
Bishop was the victim of very severe abuse that
resulted in the loss of an ear and part of his upper lip. Due to the
graphic nature of his suffering, his story is on a separate page. He
is doing well now, though, and you can also read about his happy ending!
